Treatment of Black Gums

We treat black (hyperpigmented) gums by a procedure called depigmentation to change the color of the gums to normal pink. We remove an upper layer of epithelium under local anesthesia by using a scalpel and cover the area using saline moist gauze which takes care of post-operative healing. The area is typically re-epitheliazed within four days but with a drastic change in color. The newly formed epithelium radiates a pleasant pink color thus enhancing patients smile and self confidence.
